The very first report in a landmark collection to help health care workers and suppliers, donors, and decision makers comprehend the importance of including mental health care in global health programs has been printed in this weekas PLOS Medicine. Offering a global perspective on integrating mental health into health services around the world, the collection focuses on mental, neurological, and substance use (MNS) disorders. Although these problems account for a growing burden of infection, access is often lacked by affected people to mental healthcare in high-, middle-, and low-income countries. The experts, light emitting diode by Pamela Collins from the National Institute of Mental Health in the US, reveal that the purpose of the collection is always to help obtain a Grand Challenge in World wide Mental Health: aredesign health programs to combine MNS problems with other chronic-disease treatment, and create parity between mental and physical disease in expense into research, education, therapy, and prevention.aaa In this first preliminary article, the authors describe the requirement for integration. They say: aThe research showing that there truly is aano health without psychological healthaa continues to grow, and the links between HIV and depression, cardiovascular disease and anxiety disorders, diabetes and depression - in addition to other conditions - suggest that the very best results for these disorders need care that attends to any or all of them.a The authors argue that achieving desired results for priority health plans will undoubtedly be hard without managing MNS disorders and advocate for packages of care for MNS disorders in combination with effective interventions in primary care and other priority health distribution programs.
